Jodie Comer gives an outstanding lead performance in Mahalia Belo’s searing adaptation of Megan Hunter’s apocalyptic novel, produced by Benedict Cumberbatch, as a young woman facing new motherhood amid environmental catastrophe. 

An environmental crisis sees London submerged in flood waters. At the same time, a young mother (Comer) gives birth to her first child. With life in the city untenable, she and her husband (Joel Fry) flee north in search of safety, but their family is torn apart as they seek survival. The intimate novelty of motherhood and the wide-ranging impacts of environmental catastrophe are brought into sharp focus in this moving, poetic film.
