The Summer with Carmen (18)

  • Gloucester Guildhall 23 Eastgate Street Gloucester United Kingdom (map)

Dir: Zacharias Mavroeidis | Greece | 2024 | 106 mins | Subtitled

Cast | Yorgos Tsiantoulas, Andreas Lampropoulos, Nikolas Mihas

A pert and perky, sexy and sun-drenched romp featuring a hunky cast – and a very cute dog – The Summer with Carmen celebrates the bonds of queer platonic friendship.

While enjoying a day soaking up the sun at Athens’ gay beach, best friends Demos (Yorgos Tsiantoulas) and Nikitas (Andreas Labropoulos) brainstorm ideas for a screenplay. Recalling the lively events of the pivotal summer when Demos reluctantly broke up with his ex, Panos, and impulsively acquired a dog named Carmen. Fluidly revisiting the past in hopes of turning it into a 'hero’s journey', Zacharias Mavroeidis’s zesty comedy explores masculinity, sexuality, and catharsis through creativity.
