Art of Action Season: Swordplay Workshop & Yojimbo Screening
Award-winning Japanese dancer, choreographer and stunts person Yukiko Masui highlights the artistry and visual choreography of action, with a FREE sword workshop preluding our screening of Yojimbo.
What is it?
A FREE entry movement workshop in sword practice for all abilities.
What will I learn?
Participants will learn the foundation of Samurai Sword practice (Kendo) and swordplay. Creatively using the technique to create their own sword dance (Kenbu). Participants will learn how to intimidate their opponent and how to create beautiful pathways with sword.
The workshop will thoroughly focus on the performative aspect of sword practice as opposed to combat.
Who is this workshop for?
The workshop is for martial arts enthusiasts, Dance and Circus performers and those who are interested in stunt work or blending martial arts into their practice. This workshop is open to all levels and abilities.
Complimentary Film Screening of Yojimbo
After the workshop attendees are invited to a screening of Akira Kurosawa's visually stunning, darkly comic jidaigeki classic film Yojimbo
The screening will give workshop attendees the opportunity to see swordplay techniques in practice on the big screen.
