LGBTQ+ History Month takes places every February. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of, and combat prejudice against, LGBTQ+ people and share information about history, lives and experiences.
Matthew, our Visitor Experience Officer, has been chatting with JayJay, the Chairperson from PRIDE in Gloucestershire, to learn more about the organisation and LGBTQ+ History Month; including the importance of the month, this year’s theme and what PRIDE in Gloucestershire are doing to mark the event.
Pride in Gloucestershire is a charity ran entirely by volunteers and celebrates Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans and Queer life in Gloucestershire.
The organisation holds an annual Pride day in the city of Gloucester where they invite our community and allies to come together in celebration of LGBTQ+ life. Due to COVID-19, the team are currently planning for both eventualities, whether the 2021 celebration goes ahead online or in person. A final decision will be made about whether which one goes ahead later in the year.
Any events supported or arranged by Pride in Gloucestershire aim to promote awareness of LGBTQ+ issues by providing information, education and entertainment in a safe environment.
