Gloucester is gearing up to be the epicentre of cutting-edge music as the Underground Festival 2025 gets ready to unleash an unforgettable line-up. Join us for our latest chat with Ethan Proctor of Bottlemoth, who will be taking the stage at Blackfriars… Over to you, Ethan!
What can the audience expect from your performance at the Underground Festival?
We’ve been working hard to put together our best live show yet and we can’t wait to bring that to Underground. We’ve filled it to the brim with energy and dynamics, it’s going to be great fun.
Do you have a favourite memory from a past performance or festival?
We are still fairly early doors with Bottlemoth, but have all been in bands with each other before. My favourite moment on stage so far was a show at Glastonbury Festival. Only a small cap tent, but overflowing and the atmosphere was insane. Chasing that!
Are there any upcoming projects or releases you’re excited about?
Within our band we are currently working on lots of new music after our debut album released end of last year. Writing is my favourite part and it’s dead exciting to be working on lots here.
In other releases and projects though, I’m looking forward to the next Brown Horse record, catching Maccabees returning this summer and touring on a few shows with China Bears in April.
What are you most looking forward to at Underground Festival 2025?
We have seen some great shows in Blackfriars at the festival, so excited to play there for the first time. Last time we all were there we caught Home Counties and it was ace. 4 Foot Fingers were also one of my favourite bands growing up, so hoping to catch the show.
How do you prepare for a big performance?
We all are spread out across towns in the south west, so we get together a couple times for longer day rehearsals when shows coming up. We are pouring more into the live sound and can’t wait to share that with Underground.
What’s the last song you listened to?
A friend told me I should check out a band called Y - mad stuff, v cool. Last week though I couldn’t get Longview out of my head, so was a Green Day Dookie spinning week.
Do you have a favourite album or artist that you’re currently obsessed with?
We all are fans of Manchester Orchestra, I’d say that’s a common trend through the band. My favourite is Cope, though others will likely say Black Mile To The Surface.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be an why?
We’ve not really ever collaborated in a big way with other artists, but would be exciting I think. I don’t think I have an answer, though someone completely in a different world to us would be a fun mix.
What’s a fun fact about you that your fans might not know?
Our dog Indi is often out with us if we can’t find a sitter - well on her way to being in the band.
What’s your favourite song to perform live?
At the moment it’s probably Tattoo. It was the lead single from our record and is the greatest example of the direction we are heading in. Will long be in the set I think.
